I thought it might be good to have some info about APE on a web page somewhere. So I threw this together:
It almost certainly contains at least _some_ lies; please let me know what they are (or, if you don't care, I'll just carry on spreading them :)
Thanks Joe, but there are a few changes I'd like and will list here so that others can note them. The switch is a Cisco with generous support from Cisco NZ. The old Ciscos will be returning to Wgtn soon. <applause> <Roger takes a bow> CityLink is no longer charging ISPs for access to APE as a part of our contribution to efficient Internetworking. ie ITS FREE. This includes use of the route server. It is presumed that an ISP already has an AS number. Corporates without AS numbers will face a small charge to join the exchange as a "filtering mechanism" to ensure that the routes advertised through the server have been checked, sanitised or whatever. We are operating a similar policy in Wellington with WIX. In addition, Wgtn corporate PLUS customers can join WIX for free until Christmas. I did a simple scan of WIX today (not the server tho) and there are 30 hosts on WIX. I think there are about 10 ISPs (another 2 waiting on IP numbers from me) and the rest are large corporates. (Note WIX and CityLink's IP products are related but not the same. There are some 150 to 200 IP customers who may or maybe not using WIX, spread over about 30 switches. It has been reported that someone has broken into the APE cabinet on L48 and using our UPS. I'm pretty annoyed at that. There is a key in AKL and the 24 hr phone number is on both cabinet doors. JDA/SkyTower weren't impressed either and have complained to CityLink. Considering there are only 2 APE users, for someone to break into the cabinet says something about network operators in Auckland. We (CityLInk) have gone to considerable expense to set up the APE gear and are effectively doing it for free. Someone obviously thought that was too expensive and prefers to steal power and switch ports. </rant> sorry - living with teenagers has side effects...... rich richard.naylor(a)citylink.co.nz This mail message contains information that is confidential and which may be subject to legal privilege.
