Hi Folks,
NZNOG http://www.nznog.org/ is the New Zealand Network Operators’ Group –
an online community of network operators, predominantly in the Internet and
Online Services area.
NZNOG has no king, president, or formal membership. It consists of the
subscribers to the NZNOG mailing list. The group is intended to facilitate
discussion among operators of networks in New Zealand on matters relevant
to network operators.
Annual Conference
Our annual conference provides both an opportunity to exchange technical
information, and a high-value opportunity for NZ’s networking staff to
‘network’ amongst themselves. This is New Zealand’s only locally run
technical networking conference. In 2016 we decided to work with our
friends at APRICOT to help NZ Networking folks gain more skills and
experience in operating internet technology so we've provided a modest
grant to enable this fellowship. We look forward to you applying.
We intend to resume the NZNOG conference in 2017. We hope to see you there.
Please see here:

- You should be a NZ passport holder or at least hold a NZ work visa.
- You are requested to post a summary of your experience or what you
learnt at Apricot back to the NZNOG list so the NOG can gain benefit of
their experiences.
- Sections on travel and accomodation will be ignored. We'll pay for the
entry fee and that's it. Everything else is up to you.
- This fellowship is intended for regular NZNOG attendees. If you've not
attended an NZNOG conference in the past, then it is unlikely you will be
selected.
- The fellowship covers conference entry only. Workshops are not
included.
Application entry lasts for only a few short days. Sorry about that.
Regards
Jamie (on behalf of NZNOG Trustees)

Cheers Jamie!
Glad you guys are on it.
@AJ - My intention was for those in the community who are students or are lower in the ranks of one of the larger guys where getting the OK for the ticket may prove challenging. Given the person is probably already taking paid or unpaid leave to attend.
Cheers, Pat

Following on from our email in August ( http://list.waikato.ac.nz/pipermail/nznog/2015-August/021864.html) , in somewhat typical fashion the trustees (and friends) are pulling something together at the last freaking minute. We hope in a few short days that we'll be able to confirm arrangements.
I went to APRICOT in Hong Kong and Singapore. They were amazing. Almost as amazing as Steve K's dancing in Hong Kong.
On a more serious note, these are the peak conferences for our technical community in this part of the world. Don't regret not going to one when it's been in your backyard. And it's not a corporate crowd. It's our crowd.
cheers
Jamie (on behalf of NZNOG trustees).

Hi,
I don’t recall this being communicated, I know a few people who attend NZNOG (some APNIC members some not) but work in the general ISP / Telco Community and associated fields, that would like to attend if the price was reasonable…. (People who have attended past NZNOG’s).
Seems a real shame that NZNOG is in Auckland for once, and actually half the people won’t go because $$$$…. fail.
Also I found that NZNOG has a really good social / networking element to it, (as well as good content), you get to meet other people who you otherwise wouldn’t, I suspect with the pricing its going to attract a different more corporate crowd which is a shame :(
While APRICOT might be more expensive than NZNOG, I assure you that you will find the social networking aspect, the excellent content, and many new people to talk to.
The fact that one of the biggest networking conferences in the region is coming to AKL should be a really strong reason for people in NZ to attend APRICOT, hear international perspectives as well as local, and see the wider community.
I know it's costly, but it's a much, much bigger event, and frankly, reasonably priced for a 1 week conference (on an international scale).
I do hope that the Trustees announce something to reduce the financial burden, but honestly, this should be an easy sell to your financial management - NZNOG /and/ APRICOT in one!
