Folks, I know I shouldn't be feeding the trolls, but... I believe the article in question refers to NGI-NZ: http://www.ngi-nz.co.nz/network/map.html AFAIK the physical infrastructure for this has been in place for quite some time. According to propaganda I read in the Wellington Airport, Telecom provided Peter Jackson with a 1gbps link from Wellington to LA. Further, according to a Mr. Tone Borren of NGI-NZ, a largely unutilized (Telecom controlled) 622mbps link exists between NZ & Aussie and will in short order be used to piggy-back NGI-NZ on to AARNET: http://www.aarnet.edu.au/ Happy whinging, JB -----Original Message----- From: Juha Saarinen [mailto:juha(a)saarinen.org] Sent: Thursday, 18 March 2004 9:15 a.m. To: NZ NOG Subject: [nznog] Has the physical infrastructure for the "advanced network"been built? http://snipurl.com/55qf The launch is soon, so it seems like it. "Advanced networks typically provide internet data links at more than 1 Gigabit a second, or 200 times faster than a Telecom Jetstream connection." Wow. Imagine surfing your intarweb email at that speed! -- Juha _______________________________________________ NZNOG mailing list NZNOG(a)list.waikato.ac.nz http://list.waikato.ac.nz/mailman/listinfo/nznog
