Peter, The purpose of the Registrar workshops was not to get down into the minutiae of individual fields nor the timing of changes to templates. We used them to cover some concepts related to the changes. Following the workshops, we deliberately chose not to put details on the Domainz site as to exactly what those changes would be. Rather, in late Feb. we announced that changes were "afoot" and asked folks to keep an eye out (I think you e-mailed us some comment at the time). The purpose of the message today is to alert Registrars that the changes signalled are close to being announced. When I have all the details to hand, then I will publish them, and I've committed to do that by Tuesday next week. The process for signalling change to the template is shown at, http://www.domainz.net.nz/registration/channel.html We notify change by way of the Domainz Newz page, and give time for Registrars to change their systems. To my knowledge, there have been no substantive changes to the template since around May 1997 -- 2 years ago now. Given the scale of these changes (it is more than just a change of the form ID), the time allotted when changes will "kick-in" will be more than 2 weeks. The type of change means considerable change to data held in the .nz Register, and can only be accomplished in a number of steps. Again, details will be published next week, and I do welcome all feedback. Yes, I will positively encourage feedback, the changes are not totally "frozen", there may be some opportunity to finesses and improve their implementation. Certainly I see the NZNOG as a very important forum to "kick the changes" around, and I will welcome any construcive comments that may be forthcoming. These are changes that were signalled during the recent Registrar workshops, and I understand we have referenced them on the DOmainz site too.
Whilst they are not finally "frozen", they are much more solidly formed
I can see nothing on the DOMAINZ site that is a proposal to change the e-mail template. I have spoken to several people who attended your workshops. They have specifically advised no proposal to change the e-mail template was presented. than
just floating ideas for comment.
I interpret above to mean you will be publishing the changes without opportunity to have them changed as a result of industry feedback. How many days will there be between the date you publish the changes to when ISP's must have made changes to their systems to use new e-mail template? I need to know this in order to allocate development resource. regards Peter Mott Chief Enthusiast 2Day Internet Limited http://www.2day.net.nz -/- --------- To unsubscribe from nznog, send email to majordomo(a)list.waikato.ac.nz where the body of your message reads: unsubscribe nznog --------- To unsubscribe from nznog, send email to majordomo(a)list.waikato.ac.nz where the body of your message reads: unsubscribe nznog
