Indeed, they never saw it at all. My domain actually dates from 1991, but I would be very hard pressed to prove that now.
For those interested in .nz domain name history, I'd considered going back to the monthly posts to nz.general that Mark Davies used to generate titled "Network Connected Organisations in New Zealand" and reconstructing at least which year and month a domain was registered.
