Hi all, I note the 2912 switch that constitutes APE is full and has now been supplemented by a Dlink one. While Dick Smith may be quite happy selling these devices to their customers, I don't think it is entirely appropriate to be a central point for New Zealand's Internet traffic. Perhaps the nice people at Cisco ( or another civic minded manufacturer ) would like to donate something more appropriate for the task, like a 3548xl say ?
The D-Link arrived when our technician went to liven another ISP and found one with 3 ports. Of course doing the unplug thing wasn't appreciated, so a quick solution was implemented. A new switch is on order, but donations/loans/toys, etc always accepted. I also need a new switch for my LAN at home - GbE preferred. I hope the new switch will go in very soon, along with a BIG alarm on the doors of the cabinet. I have already mentioned to one Telco that locating gear in our rack without asking is not very polite. richard.naylor(a)citylink.co.nz --------- To unsubscribe from nznog, send email to majordomo(a)list.waikato.ac.nz where the body of your message reads: unsubscribe nznog
