Hey Alan... happy to take this to the council as I agree it is worth us doing.
Why only now? People have asked for this many times before? I hope this isn't going to the council to be discussed by bureaucrats and then ignored once again?
In fact it has been discussed and some policy which covers Zone Transfers, which has also been discussed in nznog, will need to incorporate such a service. This policy should be posted in the not-to-distant future.
Presumably this will have something to do with closing ns99.waikato.ac.nz to zone transfers -- something I don't see much merit in doing so because many people have legitimate reasons for wishing to do this. After politely pointing out ns99.waikato.ac.nz was unreachable a couple of weeks back, I received mail from someone at Domainz who was very defensive about the whole thing and seemed somewhat put out that I might want to perform zone transfers from there... it seems Domainz (or at least some people there) are very protective with the *.nz zone information even though it is public domain; http://www.domainz.net.nz/reference/definition.html#Use [...] All information collected will be considered as information within the public domain. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ [...] Then almost immediately goes on to say: All information collected will be held in the Domainz registration database, the content, form and interfaces of which are copyright and property of Domainz. How public domain content can be copyrighted I don't know...
Look forward to receiving the Petition.
Your not serious are you? This isn't the first time this has been brought up -- does it really need a petition for Domainz to take a serious look at this issue? -cw --------- To unsubscribe from nznog, send email to majordomo(a)list.waikato.ac.nz where the body of your message reads: unsubscribe nznog
