perhaps you're right reckon ww or wiredcountry would get very far if 512k dsl was $40/month flatrate? with a 50,000+ userbase already despite rather ridiculous pricing? dsl is a lot further along the product development path. i guess thats the monopoly mindset

It doesn't do anything for the competition, because effectively, Telecom owns most of NZ's data circuits, with Telstra sitting on the rest.
Too late to route around that now, so get used to being gouged.
