Anyone know the geographical extent of the outage it all died here in Katikat at 2208pm no PPP. Dreadful customer service. No notice and no advice during outage.
From the reports I've seen here and a test or two I did last night it was an outage that affected the DNS systems ( Authoritative and Caching ) and authentication systems all Xtra customers.
Lesson 1. Geographic redundancy is probably needed for 4 or 5 9s Lesson 2. An overnight outage once a year that doesn't make the papers probably doesn't justify the cost of geographic redundancy. http://news.google.co.nz/news?hl=en&q=telecom+xtra&scoring=n Lesson 3. If you Internet breaks at 10pm on a Friday night and resetting the modem doesn't work and the helpdesk is busy then it's probably a good excuse to get a few beers. -- Simon Lyall | Very Busy | Web: http://www.darkmere.gen.nz/ "To stay awake all night adds a day to your life" - Stilgar | eMT.
