Except perhaps when the pain lasts a long time (hours, if not days), and causes a fair amount of trouble to a lot of people/mail servers. Like Xtra at the moment from what I've seen on nznog.
I still think that a secondary MX on the same network - even if its not the primary service on the box - would be useful in situations where the primary server goes down (Ive been preaching the 'human' factor of networks during the couple of system problems at work of late...) but I conceed that todays network architecture makes the need less critical. This doesnt happen too often I suppose...
BTW, has anyone considered that the reason that no one from Xtra has spoken up is that their outgoing mail is having trouble as well as their incoming mail? :-)
