You're pretty new to NZ though. We've got a very rich history of lots of local peering and are very much open about it, so someone sending a message saying "Hey anyone want to set up some private peering sessions" isn't at all weird to me. We (as a country, historically) don't really put much effort in to figuring out if someone has lots of prefixes or whatever, if they're there and willing, we peer.

Sorry if I came across as rude, wasn't my desire.  I have, at previous employers, been connected to APE FWIW.   Finding out good information was a tricky issue.

I do see NZ as having a good camaraderie that is lacking in some countries, but I guess my main point is you don't want to be too different, too clubby if you want to encourage outsiders to join.   NZ does need to lower barriers to entry (even if perceived) to ensure that others don't bypass your beautiful country.

As for the value of private peering, that's up to individuals orgs to decide. Personally I believe IX RSs
peering is just fine.

RSes have their own benefits and problems.
