I don't happen to "just know" international sites which respond to ping requests,
You're very welcome to ping L.ROOT-SERVERS.NET at any time, although ideally (but not really, yet) that's always local :-)
As an aside, the TVH DNS server I'm using for ping monitoring to the ISP went away (after first spiking pings to nearly 200ms) for a period last night. 8.8.8.8 works, or your internet doesn't. Mumble mumble flaky ISP resolvers?
If anybody here thinks that it'd be nice to be able to buy inexpensive, 1U, high-performance, supported, etc appliances which could hang in whatever parts of your network make sense to you and provide recursive service to customers with or without DNSSEC validation, drop me a note off-list and let me know what you think you want. I may have some ideas. Joe
