I went to the DIA presentations, so although I'm not a lawyer I have listened carefully.
The new NZ legislation does not need explicit consent - it will operate with implicit consent. It also only triggers for "commercial" emails, which this list is not :-)
Sorry I should have said that 'good business approach' is explicit and then you don't have to worry about commercial or not. It was pointed out on another list that having a URL listed in your email sig could deem a message to be commercial if that site relates to the content of the message. For something to be classed as 'commercial' surely it needs to be 'selling'
something. NZNOG is hardly selling anything, wheras an email footer link to
www.woolworths.co.nz would definitely be deemed 'commercial'.

This list may not be "commercial" but one of the things that does wind people up on this list is when we get commercial emails on it. So it might be hard to say that the legislation doesn't apply.
