Fat thread on NANOG: http://www.merit.edu/mail.archives/nanog/msg06299.html Did anyone in NZ notice? -- Juha
Juha and all, I am copying this to the ABA security list as there is ongoing discussion regarding IP addresses being personally identifyable identifiers and that the EU is considering legislation to assert that IP addresses are such, which of course is absurd for this [ what you provided below ] and many other good reasons... Last I heard the NZNMG list was over that way ---------------> I guess we can forgive him for posting to the wrong list. He can buy us all a beer as penance. -- Steve.

Speaking of out of place, don't you manage/engineer a network in Australia now? ;-) Beer please. -- Nathan Ward

I am truly multi-national, I do NZ work as well as AU work as well as the occasional jaunt in the Pacific. Is this a concern to you ? Last I heard this was an operational list tho and not a 'OMG, look, a media hyped news article that poorly explains stuff in a way your average joe (not as in Abley) would understand (not of course insinuating that Joe wouldn't understand the media link)' list. (especially seeing as the link to the real discussion from an operational context had been posted previously) Isn't there an emergency you should be attending to ? ;-) Anyway, this is getting slightly off-topic now - if you want to continue this banter, please feel free to e-mail me directly. -- Steve.
