Hi all, I'm seeing lots of log messages like these: May 11 06:54:32 jet ntpd[2758]: receive: KoD packet from 2001:dce:2:17a::18 has inconsistent xmt/org/rec timestamps. Ignoring. ... on a home server. A quick web search suggests that KoD packets are a self-defence mechanism. Am I (accidentally) abusing s[1-3].ntp.net.nz? Cheers, Richard
Hi Richard, ntp2.ntp.net.nz currently has an GPS antenna fault from the storm in Auckland a few weeks back and is currently stratum 16, hence the messages. It was stratum 1 until earlier this week (Rubidium oscillator), but a attempted repair of the antenna required a reboot, thus loosing it's time. A second attempt at repair is due to happen next week. remote refid st t when poll reach delay offset jitter ============================================================ ================== *ntp1.ntp.net.nz .GPS. 1 u 719 1024 377 10.991 -0.531 0.166 ntp2.ntp.net.nz .INIT. 16 u 96 1024 0 0.000 0.000 0.000 +ntp3.ntp.net.nz .GPS. 1 u 844 1024 377 1.450 -0.155 0.295 +ntp4.ntp.net.nz .GPS. 1 u 150 1024 377 25.749 0.469 0.149 This is noted on https://ntp.net.nz and on https://status.internetnz.net.nz You might also want to add ntp4 to your pool.
