Upcoming APNIC EC elections.
[apologies for duplicates] Hi All, For those of you not already aware, the APNIC Executive Council elections are coming up, due to close at the 25th APNIC Open Policy Meeting in Taipei (25 - 29th Feb 2008). David Hughes from Australia has been nominated for the EC and would make both for a great member to represent the internet interests of Australia, NZ, and South Pacific. There hasn't been an ANZ based person on the EC since Geoff Huston in 2003. Given the impending implosion of the v4 internet it's a pretty important time for the ANZ/ Pacific internet community to have a member on the EC familiar with the region and it's many challenges. David has a wealth of experience, and has been heavily involved in the APNIC and operator community in the Asia Pacific region for many years now. He is a most suitable candidate for this role. More info on David here: http://www.apnic.net/meetings/25/elections/ec/david_hughes.html Wondering why you should care? The EC are effectively the Board of Directors of APNIC. They set the budget, fee schedules, provide policy and strategic guidance to APNIC, and a host of other duties outlined at: http://www.apnic.net/ec/ec-role.pdf If you don't know already, then find out who your APNIC corporate contact is and make sure they get involved and vote. Online voting opens on 13 Feb. I'll be at APNIC25 so if you don't want or have time, or care to vote, then it's easy to appoint a proxy to vote on your behalf. I'm more than happy to do this for you - all you have to do is fill out the proxy form below. Form already filled out with my details for your convenience. I'm also happy to relay any comments or questions you have on the policy proposals being discussed at the meeting. Details of current proposals are at: http://www.apnic.net/meetings/25/ Cheers, Jonny. APNIC Proxy voting form. I'd like to follow up on Jonny Martin's posting about supporting David Hughes. I've know David for 14 years and would like to recommend him highly to you for this role. It's important that there's strong representation on the Executive Council for the views of the smaller APNIC members so that fees and services are structured in a way that's fair and equitable. At present the EC is weighted in favour of the larger players and small and medium members (which almost certainly make up the majority of readers) are not getting a fair go. Last years struggle to set the budgets for APNIC reflects this and it's important that APNIC is in a strong position to manage the allocation of the remaining IPv4 space and the subsequent allocation of IPv6 space in a fair manner. So don't rely on others to vote in this election and do the right thing. Get your proxy form completed and passed to Jonny. Or if you have access to MyAPNIC log on and vote now so that it's done. Remember that you can allocate all your votes to one candidate. Regards andy
