seeking info on NZ Broadband
Hi NZNOG folk, I was reading an ETNO report about problems with Broadband deployment in Europe (https://www.etno.eu/news/all-news/8-news/742-8-questions-fair-contribution.h...) and similar issues in Korea, where the carriers are advancing the proposition “the big streamers should pay”. But I also read somewhere that NZ in well underway with Gbps consumer services and there seems to be no such problems from the carriers in NZ. I know it's a very generic question, but I was wondering, what is the current picture on price and performance of retail fibre broadband services in New Zealand? thanks, Geoff
Hi Geoff / NZNOG
My observation is that the operators with large Fixed Broadband market share in New Zealand see the "Big Streamers" as the reason why their customers subscribe to broadband , to the degree that they promote their broadband products with free subscription to popular content providers or a local version. I'm not sure if all operators share this sentiment though.
The other observations is this dare I say ... European vs American big streamers, and European vs Apple Lightning port
Another opinion on the subject is in this recent article https://www.totaltele.com/513531/NGOs-oppose-European-telcos-calls-for-tech-...
