HI all I just spoke with Jamie Curtis. In short: We need to borrow 2 or 3 digital video cameras for nznog, especially for Wednesday. If anyone can help, pl contact me with details. As you probably read in here, Richard and Jeremy Naylor (and their well equiped van plus other helpers) are unable to be at nznog this year (to much of their regret) as they are doing that horsey streaming Richard announced. What Richard is going to do was drop off some stuff enough for WAND to set up a stream etc. It is all set to go but is as yet untested. I'll assume there's enough geeks there on Tues/Wed to help get it going or spoil the soup. More information will be coming from Jamie or Richard They apparently have enough digital cameras at the moment to record one other stream BUT if all streams on Wed are to be recorded, we need more! So all going well some of it will recorded at this stage. Baring technical difficulties, there will be a stream from r2. This means you have to be peered at WIX to hear it UNLESS Citylink get something going at APE.
Could also be good for whoever's looking after that to contact Doug Kay at IT Conversations ( http://www.itconversations.com/ ) for syndication... Syndication = bandwidth use unless they use Multicast or some overseas mirror/replicator etc.
regards lin ps replies for Dinners on Wed and Fri both show we'll have at least 20 ppl on each night. I assume some of you are a bit slack. THe place we went to last year could have probably accommodated another 10 - 15 more. So if the Wed dinner is going to be over 50 I need to know ASAP! http://www.nznog.org/curry_about.php http://www.nznog.org/curry_rsvp.php

Yep - that's right.

Yep - we dropped off an encoding PC & router to Jamie on our way up to Auckland on Saturday.

People should be peering at WIX anyway! Hope this helps. Well I know at leat one non-NZ person who was interested. I would guess once things are finished we can distrivuted all the recorded sessions via some other method (ftp, dvd, torrent, whatever). -- Simon J. Make that two. Oh, and try not to be too stingy with the number of sessions you record. ;) Chris

Free hosting of recorded/edited streams outside New Zealand is easy to organise (if needed, let me know). Joe

From: http://www.r2.co.nz/20050203/ After the event, the recorded video may be made available for watching. Processing of this video will take approximately 1 day. A recording would be great for me so I could download the high bandwidth one and watch it after copying it to my computer. I only have a low bandwidth link. Will you be posting the link of the recording to the list? Thanks again, scott

A torrent file for each session would be even better, if anyone feels up to seeding it. Cheers. James.

yes - but I wouldn't believe the 1 day bit. I might take a day or 2 off for some sleep. rich

Its being routed internationally. We DO have int capacity and only do WIX/APE only webcasting if the broadcast rights require that. Joe and Chris should be able to watch just fine.

Well - yes thats what we believe. But its kinda hard for folks overseas....

We're actually doing this remotely. It won't be as good as last year as we're in AKL with teh van and have only left an encoder and router at Waikato. Sorry bout that, but paying jobs have to get priority. However, the WAND folks will do a great job giving us an audio and video feed I'm sure, and that will be available on www.r2.co.nz/20050203 - hopefully in a few minutes. We will record it to disk and then when we pick up the encoder on saturday, have a little editing job to do....... The stream is in multi-bit rate windows media, with 56k, 128k and 256k streams. If it all goes well, files will be available next week. Rich Oh yes - we're still doing Yearling Sales and have all our other stuff going on - so traffic etc may be affected today.

I should be able to watch more effectively than that from somewhere in front of the camera, actually. Unless there's someone else in the world called Joe, which seems like it will cause confusion if it's true.

It's kind of hard for some people in Auckland, too. Joe

Hey Joe and all, Yeah - true. We do have both domestic and international capacity, and we use it when there's an economic argument for doing so. There are several reasons why we might restrict something to just WIX, the nature of the broadcast rights is just one of those.

Well I think they've all gone to lunch. The video is of an empty room and all I hear is background noise currently but previously, like Simon B, I had Simon L coming through fine. cheers mark

Hey Simon and all, Yep - that's right. We usually distribute all of the videos we record via HTTP anyway.
