Off topic, but be charitable. Netsafe have launched their cybersafety ambassador http://www.netsafe.org.nz/hector_protector/hector_protector_default.aspx Please give it a work out. It is pretty important that they have this right, the last thing we want it to have a kid's safety tool able to be hi-jacked. On a more serious note, I don't think it's entirely wise to have a "safety tool" that is a Windows executable. What if someone passes on infected copies of Hector? In fact, I can imagine virus writers would want to rengineer Hector into a Trojan Sea Horse. Is the executable digitally signed? I didn't see a signature. Having to reboot the system after installation is bad. Shouldn't the program or screen saver as it appears to be come as Open Source to be more in keeping with InternetNZ's philosophy of supporting open standards and non-proprietary technology? I see that even though the readme file says Hector works with e.g. Mozilla, the Web site implies it only works with IE: "Once downloaded, Hector can swim alongside children (in a corner of their computer screen) as they surf the Internet using Internet Explorer, or communicate with others using Outlook or Outlook Express. you may have misseed this from the opening sentance. "The Internet Safety Group (ISG), along with Founding Sponsor Microsoft NZ" or maybe they consider Mozilla users to be more aware of where they're going?

It seems a pity to have my name associated with Windows-only software, but I expect I'll live :-) I assume it's supposed to be a Hector's Dolphin ... Richard
I wonder if they will have the same problems that the real Hector Dolphin's
encounter :-)
Been caught in a net and then mutilated.
Then again they could of called it something like "Michael Jackson"
On a serious note, it is a pathetic piece of Software that doesn't exactly
do much, you could save some System resources by telling the child to turn
off the Monitor or Rip the plug out of the Wall.
Did I miss something?

Perhaps an extension for Firefox could be created that provides similar helpful censorship? If someone is surfing the net using IE or using OE for email, their computer is in danger anyway. James.

Why not just press "Windows logo key"-L ? http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=294317 -- Simon J. Lyall | Very Busy | Web: http://www.darkmere.gen.nz/ "To stay awake all night adds a day to your life" - Stilgar | eMT.

It doesn't bring up a cute Disney/Neverland style anthropomorphic animal and only works with Windows XP (and keyboards with a Windows key, which admittedly most have nowadays). Also, you can't launch it with a biggus marketing campaign either... -- Juha
