In a pure L2 network multicast is a dangerous technology. Think of

what

happens to a 10meg user when a 100meg user kicks off a 25meg multicast stream.

But doesn't that depend on how your switches are setup?. My understanding is the use of IGMP fixes this problem. The switch will only sent that multicast packets to switch ports which want it. (of course the switch has to support IGMP)
