Yeah, we're checking half as many emails as usual. Wonder how many hours the respite will last until they get hosted elsewhere...

Actually it does look to have dropped...unless just coincidence of when I looked at it Actually just checked reports, over the past week spam seems to have dropped 500 to 1000 emails a day (avg is around 2000 spam a day, 3000 to 4000 emails total avg) Philip Seccombe E: philip(a)turnstone.co.nz M: +64 21 344 748 F: +64 9 970 5559 Turnstone Technologies NZ Ltd Office: +64 9 970 5550 -----Original Message----- From: Regan Murphy [mailto:regan.murphy(a)oasystems.co.nz] Sent: Thu 11/13/2008 3:28 PM To: nznog(a)list.waikato.ac.nz Subject: [nznog] Host of Internet Spam Groups is Cut Off So, are all your mailservers twiddling their thumbs now with nothing to do?

There's definitely been a fairly significantly drop -
http://www.spamcop.net/spamgraph.shtml?spamweek
Globally we're seeing about a 40% reduction in spam levels - even higher if
you just consider botnet-based spam. Our estimates for yesterday (11th, US
Time) were around 112 billion spams globally, down from a daily average of
190 billion for October. I haven't seen the numbers for today yet, but I
wouldn't be surprised to see them drop back to double figures!
Only time will tell how long it takes before they recover (when InterCage
went dark a few months ago it took 5 days for things to get back to
"normal").
