Re: Contacting ISP re: CC fraud
And FWIW I agree, and thanks to those who emailed me offlist with similar echoed comments. :P My thinking was. 1) I dont like the use of Fraudulent Credit Cards regardless of who theyre being used with... 2) If The ISP is deemed to be the appropriate contact for a genuine crime then.. well.. *shrug* Of course the logical cause of action is obvious, but then again, when the NZCC have already pretty much told you what they think of you, its not suprising that the appropriate authorities havnt yet been invoked... ? This stuff strikes me as obvious enough - as a sysadmin I would expect a lot of this is fairly logical proceedure for dealing with network abuse.
He runs one of the biggest SPAM/MLM schemes in New Zealand, so its not surprising he doesn't know how "whois" works and doesn't trust that a remote ISP will actually respond to "abuse@" complaints (hell, we know HIS one didn't eh seeby ?)
Maybe he just needs to be beaten about the head a few times with a very large clue stick.

You sound surprised that a bunch of people who support networks for a living would have a problem with something that looks and quacks remarkably like a scam. On Thu, 2002-10-17 at 13:42, Barry @ CASHevolution Support wrote:

Who mentioned the press ? afaik Juha has not yet posted. As for helpfulness.. forgive us barry if we don't like spammers/scammers for some weird reason. If you are really concerned about tracking these people down then why not contact your own ISP ? or do they respond to queries from their customers with the same lack luster attitude they answer abuse complaints with.. ? -- Steve. - To unsubscribe from nznog, send email to majordomo(a)list.waikato.ac.nz where the body of your message reads: unsubscribe nznog
Let me put it in simple terms, many of the people on this list have to do a significant amount of extra work to try and combat spamming rip off artists. As such you will find very little sympathy and certainly very little help from this group. Infact many people see such activities as the scourge of the net and would prefer that such lowlifes disappear all together. It really is a bit cheeky asking the people who barely tolerate the existence of such "businesses" for help.
