Dean, You know what internetNZ could do? It could start lobbying the government to push for US media companies, to remove location based tariffs on content in the pacific region under the APAC Economic Cooperation Treaty (which includes a free trade component).
Theres an interesting corollary to this. As a content producer, an increasing percentage of our audience is based outside of NZ and an NZ based CDN is no longer good enough Even a US based CDN is inadequate. (ie SFO or LAX) We now have to use CDNs with a very good global footprint, or use a federation of CDNs. We no longer use NZ CDNs. As an example NZNOG-2012 - only 37% of the audience was in NZ and viewers came from 96 countries. This occurs for pretty well all events we cover now, maybe not to such an extent, but to the point that we have had to change CDNs. Even on-demand material has a global reach and so we need to serve into Europe, central Europe, Asia, Africa (got a POP in Botswana ?). Richard
