Are static IPs over Jetstart possible and are they legitimate?
Hi all, The following is taken verbatim from a local ISP's site: (today). -- <copy> -- * Static IP's for Jetstart are offered over PPTP tunnels. The pricing quoted includes the setup of the PPTP tunnel on our side, but does not include client support, which is currently charged at $120 per hour if required. -- </copy> -- And then under the Jetstart service description field: -- <copy> -- * Servers are allowed * Static IPs over tunnels $20/mth -- </copy> -- Anyone tried this? Does it work? If so, how well? Is it legitimate? Wishing everyone a happy 2002. This is on Web InterNets website (http://www.win.co.nz/price.sql). It is legit, has been operational for some time, and (mixed) results and questions have been discussed on the ADSL mailing list. (A good keyword to search for is "VTUN") Archive of list - http://www.unixathome.org/adsl (I mension this only because I believe that is a more appropriate forum, and this horse has already been flogged for those who are interested) Cheers, David Gottschalk Web InterNet Ltd On Thu, 3 Jan 2002, Michael Hallager wrote:

This is a VPN setup. Works great. Inactive windows tend to drop the connection sometimes. regards joe baptista On Thu, 3 Jan 2002, Michael Hallager wrote:

I am aware of a number of people using this service. It works extremely well for them. I am aware of people doing this on Windows XP and Debian Linux.
