PLANNED IP6.ARPA NAMESERVER CHANGE This is a courtesy notification of an upcoming change to the nameserver set for the IP6.ARPA zone. There is no expected impact on the functional operation of the DNS due to this change. There are no actions required by DNS server operators or end users. DETAIL The IP6.ARPA zone is used to provide reverse mapping (number to name) for IPv6, as described in RFC 3152. The servers which currently provide authoritative DNS service for the IP6.ARPA zone are as follows: TINNIE.ARIN.NET NS-SEC.RIPE.NET NS2.LACNIC.NET SEC1.APNIC.NET NS.ICANN.ORG On Wednesday 2010-12-01 processing will begin to change the nameserver set to the following, as described in RFC 5855: A.IP6-SERVERS.ARPA (operated by ARIN) B.IP6-SERVERS.ARPA (operated by ICANN) C.IP6-SERVERS.ARPA (operated by AfriNIC) D.IP6-SERVERS.ARPA (operated by LACNIC) E.IP6-SERVERS.ARPA (operated by APNIC) F.IP6-SERVERS.ARPA (operated by RIPE NCC) The usual IANA process for a change in the ARPA zone involves a series of technical checks and the gathering of various authorisations, and may take several days to complete. Courtesy notification will be sent to this list once this change has been fully implemented. Regards, Joe Abley Director DNS Operations ICANN
Hi, I've got a Telstra fibre install happening next week, and I intend to plug the single mode tail straight into my Cisco 3750G via a Single Mode SFP, I've spent the afternoon tying to get the spec / wavelength out of Telstra & Downer to no avail..... the only answer they can come up with is its delivered as an "ethernet" service via a media converter, and go away... you pesky customer! Could someone please let me know if its a 1310nm (1000BASE-EX), 1550nm (1000BASE-ZX), or 1490nm (1000BASE-BS-D), as I intend to "store" the media converter in a trash can once its commissioned, and want to order the SFP in advance of installation. Oh come on... I'm in week 5 of waiting just to get a price to connect to the bit of fibre that's running 5 m from where I'm sitting right now. Don't know what your issue is... at least you've got a provisioning date? Took me 2 weeks got get it acorss that that 2mbit HFC really isn't a solution for moving our hosting from .us to .nz. (I'm scared of GeekZone geeks laughing at me for trying to run a Xen server on an HFC connection.) What's the trick Liam? Or did you just not bother asking what it costs? D
You may well find that the terms of the way the service is delivered to you will require you to use whatever CPE they provide. Switching their standard Media Converter for your own SFP will give them the opportunity to say 'it's not our problem' when/if you have a problem. I'd recommend you just run with what they give you, to be honest... unless you can get them to agree to what you want to do (and then officially advise you what type of SFP you need...) however it seems from Don's post that this might be path of some resistance :) Mark. I expect there will be weekly problems owing to the upstream service provider, (this is just a Telstra wholesale tail), hence my plan to run multi-homed BGP / TCNZ copper backup. On 26/11/2010, at 11:15 PM, Mark Foster wrote:

Where would be the fun in running "standard" kit :D I also wonder if the converter is RoHS compliant, I'm already in trouble "storing" my PET Evian bottles in the trash :P

NOTE: When using TCL optical Ethernet circuits if you want to use jumbo
frames be sure that either you specify the requirement on the order form so
they install an M/C that supports an MTU over 1532 bytes otherwise put in
you own M/C's.

You can get Telstra to give you optical delivery if you are ordering a 1Gbps circuit. Occasionally it's also possible to get it by asking. Otherwise, I'd suggest just reading the spec on the back of the media converter when it arrives. Telstra use several different types, and have both 100Mbps and 1Gbps converters. I don't believe it will be 1000Base-EX, 1000Base-ZX or 1000Base-BX-D. Most likely 1000Base-LX10 or 100Base-LX10.
