Hi all, I have been chasing my Telecom account Manager for months to get some progress on this, so I thought I would throw it out here and see where every one else is with this. We currently peer with all major ISP's and backbone providors over either or both WIX and APE. The notable exception being Telecom Netgate ( we do peer directly with Xtra on WIX ). We are paying Telecom currently for a PVC to Netgate for peering with them and I am unhappy for this to continue. ( especially as we have almost twice the outgoing traffic to them as we recieve from them ! ). I have had nothing more than "I'll get back to you" when attempting to initiate peering with Telecom ( not Xtra ). It seems very strange to me that Clear, Telstra and everyone else is responsive and happy to work for the greater good of the Internet users in the country, but Telecom only seems interested if someone else is paying for it. --------- To unsubscribe from nznog, send email to majordomo(a)list.waikato.ac.nz where the body of your message reads: unsubscribe nznog

While we are beating up on Telecom, how about the continued lack of domestic bandwidth that exists between Clear and Telecom? Congestion between the two networks over the last 2+ years has resulted in many customers complaining to us about poor web site performance from our servers when accessed from the Clear network. Telling the customer to connect from an ISP that has sufficient bandwidth to netgate (ie not connected downstream from Clear) does not seem a reasonable solution. Our Telecom account manager says they are ready to peer with Clear at the tower, but legal still has it in the too hard basket. Some things never change :-) Peter Mott Chief Enthusiast 2day.com -/- --------- To unsubscribe from nznog, send email to majordomo(a)list.waikato.ac.nz where the body of your message reads: unsubscribe nznog

Perhaps somebody with lots of APE bandwidth (like a router up there) could act as a tranisit between they two, ie clear <--> someone <--> telecom all within the tower. That way the two don't have to talk to each other directly. -- Simon Lyall. | Newsmaster | Work: simon.lyall(a)ihug.co.nz Senior Network/System Admin | | Home: simon(a)darkmere.gen.nz ihug, Auckland, NZ | Asst Doorman | Web: http://www.darkmere.gen.nz --------- To unsubscribe from nznog, send email to majordomo(a)list.waikato.ac.nz where the body of your message reads: unsubscribe nznog

Well the intent is there - Telecom have not one but two 100Mb connections into the APE switch - the netgate connection went in a few weeks back, and I spent a few hours last week talking the man from Telecom through his media convertor troubles last week. I see that link hasn't gone live yet (or at least, there is no router plugged in yet), so I'd guess they're still ironing out stuff.

If it helps avoid the legal wrangles, I'm happy to have both peer with the route server, and they can ignore each other. (hell, I'd like them to peer with the route server on ape anyway :-). Hi all, for those of you that are interested, we have made some progress on this issue. We now have operational peering with Xtra at APE as well as WIX which is great. However, there is still no word on peering with "Netgate", ie the rest of Telecom's "peering" customers apart from Xtra. I would suggest that those effected ( Peter, for example ) might like to push Telecom from your end. -----Original Message----- From: owner-nznog(a)list.waikato.ac.nz [mailto:owner-nznog(a)list.waikato.ac.nz]On Behalf Of Tony Wicks Sent: Friday, 23 February 2001 2:19 p.m. To: nzog Subject: Telecom Peering Hi all, I have been chasing my Telecom account Manager for months to get some progress on this, so I thought I would throw it out here and see where every one else is with this. What sort of push do you suggest? We have screamed and yelled more than enough. Our experience is that comprehension and capability diminish the higher in the organisation you get.
