I agree with Donald, this thread doesn't seem entirely appropriate, however I have seen less appropriate threads go on longer, and can't help but notice the @telecom.co.nz after Donald's address. :). probably isn't a technical issue. More like anti-competitive and predatory market tactics. -----Original Message----- From: Juha Saarinen [mailto:juha(a)saarinen.org] Sent: Friday, 24 October 2003 12:20 p.m. To: Donald Neal Cc: nznog(a)list.waikato.ac.nz Subject: Re: [nznog] Current Jetstream 'Deal'... From a technical stand point, I would like to know the technical reasons as to why Telecom cannot provide other ISP's with the same level of national connectivity that Xtra have been getting, but then this
reasons why this thread is appropriate:
Telecom's behaviour affects all network operators in New Zealand and how
they can provide cost effective services for the rest of us.
reasons why this thread is not appropriate:
This thread will probably have zero impact on Telecoms behavior. People will
let off steam and then it will be forgotten.
Perhaps the thread is not appropriate in here but an explanation from Donald
of the reasons as to why Telecom strangles this market sector would hae gone
a long way towards ending this thread. But then again there can be no
explanation to anti competitive behaviour.
Personally I use non Telecom services wherever I can and also strongly urge
any and all of my clients to use non telecom based services wherever
possible. Woosh Wireless, Telstra, Maxnet, Slingshot, etc... anything
possible.
Also perhaps of interest in a recent conference for Small and Medium
Enterprises one of the Telecom sponsored spokes people went on to say how
New Zealand is in the worlds top 10 list for e-commerce growth thanks to
Telecom and Xtra. Unfortunately for him a young girl in the audience pointed
out his error in painfully exquisite detail. It was perhaps the best part of
that conference.
