Hiya Anyone know who I should ask about routing problems somewhere at CLIX, or maybe Netgate.net.nz? I haven't been able to connect from here to parnassus.pmail.gen.nz (192.156.225.2) for about a week, but I can get to it from the States (risc.ua.edu). They connect to CLIX via Pacific Networks (pacific.co.nz). All my traceroutes from parnassus.pmail.gen.nz to here die somewhere inside CLIX (203.167.244.161). Traceroutes from here go via Netlink to Telstra (Auckland, Sydney), NetGate, then die inside a netblock that InterNIC believe belongs to the Wellington School of Medicine. If anyone would like to see the outputs, just give me a yell. I'll be watching tonight :-) FWIW, pmail.gen.nz changed their upstream about a week ago. Normal procedure for reporting connectivity problems is to talk to your ISP. What do Netlink say? In general, reporting problems to a company who are not your direct supplier is a waste of time. If you have no support arrangement with CLEAR and NetGate for internet transit (and you don't) you shouldn't be surprised that you don't have a number to call.

This is also a singularly bad night to expect anybody to make any changes to fix a problem you've been seeing for a week :) For what it's worth, I am able to reach both parnassus.pmail.gen.nz and rata.vuw.ac.nz from a machine connected to CLIX. You need to talk to your ISP.

Really? I seem to remember pmail.gen.nz being reachable through Pacific Networks for quite a long time. Joe -- Ua lawa küpono ka hakahaka pä o këia pä malule --------- To unsubscribe from nznog, send email to majordomo(a)list.waikato.ac.nz where the body of your message reads: unsubscribe nznog

True, whos up tonight anyway? I've already got 1 radio station ringing me to tell them if the internet has fallen over at midnight :)

parnassus.pmail.gen.nz goes all over the place for me, from here and from the US it loops between a couple of netgate ip's. -- Simon Lyall. | Newsmaster | Work: simon.lyall(a)ihug.co.nz System/Network Admin | T&C Enforcement | Home: simon(a)darkmere.gen.nz The Internet Group, Auck. | Asst Doorman | Web: Currently Offline --------- To unsubscribe from nznog, send email to majordomo(a)list.waikato.ac.nz where the body of your message reads: unsubscribe nznog

I've just overheard two intoxicated friends discussing how all the "internets" around the world are going to "blow up" at midnight, so make sure you have a convincing story at hand :) Tim J. 192.156.225.0/24 changed providers to become downstream of CLIX. For a while it seemed that their old provider continued to announce the prefix - presumably without connectivity. Traceroutes from pmail to your address would fail as soon as the _next_ hop was a router with incorrect knowledge of the source address. This is consistent with what you are seeing.

route-views.oregon-ix.net shows a BGP announcement with IGP origin within AS4648. This may be the problem. -Jamie --------- To unsubscribe from nznog, send email to majordomo(a)list.waikato.ac.nz where the body of your message reads: unsubscribe nznog
