Afternoon, We are implementing an offering from Delta over their Layer 2 Fibre network; most of you probably just use dark fibre but it's a good fit for us for some of our customers. I'm wondering what sort of equipment people are using as their physical connection to the network; we are having some issues getting some cheap and cheerful media converters to work that are connected at 100mb to a Catalyst 2960, their current thoughts are that the TX power is too high (28db measured at South Dunedin, we are Central) and we may need to look at putting an attenuator on to drop it down to the 8db they see on their other customer links. Before we go out and source an SFP to suit one of the other switches I want to get an idea of what other people are using. Thanks, Terry ##################################################################################### This e-mail message has been scanned for Viruses and Content and cleared by MailMarshal #####################################################################################

In a sort of related way, if you need an attenuator, buy a pencil. Wrap A02 fiber around it and its roughly 3db per turn from memory. (may be 1db, but you can soon measure it.) Tape patch cord in place. I would doubt you'd need it. The main issues I recall are too much loss with E1 modems and video modems - both analog. So always carry a pencil. R
