James, Yes to (a), (b) (windows 13,14,15,16,17,18) - unless you are thinking of multiple antennae! and (c). Remembering of course that most of the cost is for international transit rather than the gear. However I'm sure that between us that wouldn't be a problem :)) I have already tested a Lucent Orinocco ROR1000 to my home (Bastion point) from the Sky Tower, Lvl 48 with great success. Don't forget the cost of the rental of window space for the antenna as well! ~benm ------------------------------------------------------------ Ben Martel CLEAR Net

Trying to compete with Ihug eh? ;-)
Yes to a) & b)... and c) as well, I suppose, depending on the size of the chip so to speak.

Right, well the way I figured it would work is that one of us (me, I guess) can configure up a zebra box to advertise IP's domestically, and basically everyone can sort out their own IP's and Intl. transit. Basically I was thinking a big arse LAN so that we can have good quake games and the like :) Mr Robb, how much did your Airo stuff set you back, or was it a freebee? I think the idea is to try and get window space that covers as much as possible to the south (I think) of the sky tower, as that's where most people live and covers areas such as Ponsonby, Mt. Eden, Balmoral, etc. To be honest, I am not really that familiar with wireless LAN products, but it was just an idea - certainly a lot better than everyone having to get ADSL or Ultra. If someone who knows more about how wireless stuff works can jump in and help me figure out what we need to be done, etc. Also, basically can anyone who would be interested email me privately, and tell me what part of Auckland you live in, then I'm sure within a few weeks we can come back with some information about how much it's going to cost and who will be able to recieve it. Anyone know what sort of state the 2.4GHz is in around the tower? I've heard stories of it being so full already that frequency-hopping units are starting to have real problems finding a free frequency to hop to. I'm not that familiar with much of Cisco's wireless gear, but the Aironet stuff that David has is 2.4Ghz i believe... There was also a rumor floating around that Walker Wireless had signed some deal with Sky City which gave them exclusive use of 2.4Ghz off the tower, and that anyone else wanting to use that band would have to go find another high place. Anyone able to confirm/deny any of these? --- Matt Camp Head Geek Mercury Telecoms/Quicksilver Internet --------- To unsubscribe from nznog, send email to majordomo(a)list.waikato.ac.nz where the body of your message reads: unsubscribe nznog

Aironet was recently purchased by and is now a division of Cisco. We use their point-to-point 11Mbps 340 series between our NOC and office building here in Dallas. The base stations use auto scanning or fixed frequencies in the 2412MHz-2464MHz range (in increments of 5MHz). This works well for us, not sure how they support > 2 access points though. The product documentation is at: http://www.ieng.com/warp/public/cc/pd/witc/ao340ap/prodlit/index.shtml. Gents, I could be barking up the wrong tree but I understand the chaps with first rights in the band required for the Cisco kit are StreamCom who handle all things wireless for the Mai FM network ? They may be more than helpful with providing access for said project, in which case Walkers don't feature ? Just a thought..... Regards. Geoff Mason.
