Silly question perhaps, but one that I've not been able to find an answer to: Now that NSI has competitors, how does one lookup 'contact' objects via whois? I've tried various whois clients to see if there is some magic incarnation, but alas, none of them seem to support this. --cw --------- To unsubscribe from nznog, send email to majordomo(a)list.waikato.ac.nz where the body of your message reads: unsubscribe nznog

whois.crsnic.net returns the NSIregistry record, which includes a reference to a registrar whois server. jabley(a)splatter[129]$ whois -h whois.crsnic.net joker.com Whois Server Version 1.1 Domain names in the .com, .net, and .org domains can now be registered with many different competing registrars. I thought Chris was looking for the "contact", not all the records? I've found BW-whois very good (http://bw.org) otherwise. Directs you automagically to the appropriate registrars, and has a tld.conf file that you can hack as well. -- Juha --------- To unsubscribe from nznog, send email to majordomo(a)list.waikato.ac.nz where the body of your message reads: unsubscribe nznog

I thought Chris was looking for the "contact", not all the records?
Oh, I see. I think the answer to that is that NIC handles and contact objects are a feature of NSIregistrar, and other registrars have their own ways of handling such things. There is no unique, cross-registrar contact database as far as I know. This is intentional, and is a feature of the thin gTLD registry. Ah... that explains how they keep them all in sync -- they don't. I guess my next silly question is can anyone recommend a nice registrar other than NSI to move several domains to? --cw --------- To unsubscribe from nznog, send email to majordomo(a)list.waikato.ac.nz where the body of your message reads: unsubscribe nznog

Domainz?
No, seriously, I'd like to know too. NSI seems a bit... perfidious, but what kind of staying power do the new guys have?
I had to ask my girlfriend what perfidious means, and she told me, but she also said that it doesnt really matter coz it's only ever used by pretentious tossers. In my country, citizen, we have none of these "O-levels" that you speak of. But yes, I flunked out of school - but I now earn several times what anyone else in my 7th Form class earns, if that helps. I've use joker.com in the past, they're cheap and only slightly random. They have a pretty strong privacy statement, that's what sold me. (that, and geting billed in DM :-) Cheers Si On Mon, 26 Jun 2000, Chris Wedgwood wrote:
