Conference Registrations
Ok people. It's time to fess up. If you are planning to go to the NZNOG Conference then please go to the following page and register. http://www.uniforum.org.nz/registration.cgi Incase you are still unsure of why you should go - here is a list reasons/highlights. 1) Paul Vixie. Yep we managed to get Paul Vixie to agree to come out. For those of you who have managed to get on this list without knowing who Paul Vixie is, then just think words like: DNS cron dhcp Book on Sendmail etc etc etc Paul is worth the asking price for the conference. And we have him doing an hour lecture and then a whole day workshop on Saturday. 2) Greg Shepherd. Greg is a Consulting Engineer for Juniper Networks, focusing primarily on multicast protocols, performance, customer solutions, and market drivers. Before joining Juniper, Greg worked in multicast development at Cisco Systems, and also presented the Advanced Multicast Routing tutorial for Cisco Networkers. Until recently he held a faculty position at the University of Oregon's Advanced Networking Technology Center, where he provided multicast direction to the Internet2 community. Greg also sits on the Board of Advisors for Digital Fountain. 3) David Moore David's research interests are high speed network monitoring, denial-of-service attacks and infrastructure security, and Internet traffic characterization. His current research includes tracking and quantifying global DoS attacks using the backscatter analysis technique, developed with Geoff Voelker and Stefan Savage of UCSD. Most recently, David has been applying some of the same measurement techniques using large address spaces to monitor several of this summer's large worms: CodeRed v1 and v2, CodeRed-II, and Nimda. 4) lots of other people. We've really pulled out the cast of thousands for this conference. It's going to be a great opportunity to listen to that people are doing. Topics include IPv6, VoIP, Wireless, DOS etc 5) Here is the guilt trip... If you support NZNOG and this conference then there is a good chance that it will keep going in years to come. If no one turns up then there will never be one again. So even if this conference is not you IDEAL nznog conference - then please consider attending the parts that do interest you. That way there will be one in the future for you to have input into. So SIGN UP. If there is a reason why you are not signing up then please email me and let me know. There may be something that I can do about it. And do not try and just ignore it. I'll be mailing people individually to hassle them into it as well =) Dean - To unsubscribe from nznog, send email to majordomo(a)list.waikato.ac.nz where the body of your message reads: unsubscribe nznog
Dean, Thanks for all the work that you and many others have put into making this conference 'happen' and reminding us to go and register...

I thought since we only got notification about the conference late last week you may be reminding us because the website had been updated so that there was a little more 'content' in the schedule. While for many people who read this list; ------------------------------------------ DNS workshop Sat 13 Jul 08:45 ~ 16:00 (High-tech) Paul Vixie Abstract By the author of "BIND" himself! I'm sure that for many of you this is going to be a nice chance to catch up with your mates at the expense of your employer, however for someone who's interested, and has received a reasonable amount of information from this list, but doesn't have an employer who's going to put even 2c towards my attending, I need a little bit more than what's there before deciding to fork out the approx. $600 and 2 days annual leave it's going to cost me to attend ex Wellington... Good call Steve and Thanks for you input. I'm going to try and nail Paul Vixie down a little more on what he's going to talk about. If anyone has anything inparticular in mind, then please mail this to me and I'll try and sway him. As for the other examples you mention, well they are an artifact of the 'Uniforum' part of the conference. I can't speak for or about any of their speakers. I only organised the speakers in the NZNOG stream. I've CC'd this message to the organiser of the Uniforum portion, so that he can give you some more information on these. This probably simply illustrates that I have no idea of what's going on in the world, and should probably be unsubscribed from this list as a consequence, but..??..huh...???

Dean, Thanks for getting back to me on this...is there any way to 'pull out' just NZNOG items in the schedule...clicking in the NZNOG box at the top doesn't seem to do anything very much...perhaps the NZNOG sessions are just on specific days, or are they the 'high-tech' strand or..?? Thanks again Steve - To unsubscribe from nznog, send email to majordomo(a)list.waikato.ac.nz where the body of your message reads: unsubscribe nznog
I think they might be in the High Tech section. But just to be EXTRA helpful, I've attached a copy of the Speaker Bio's and Abstracts for all the NZNOG people. Excuse any formatting stuffups. It started life as a StarWriter Document but I can't post that due to the AUP =) So you get .txt Paul Vixie's is missing because we only confirmed him recently. D*mn. :-( It's supposed to - could you contact me privately with details like browser version? -Martin - To unsubscribe from nznog, send email to majordomo(a)list.waikato.ac.nz where the body of your message reads: unsubscribe nznog
In exchange for providing most of the top-end speakers, NZNOG is being offered a substantial discount off the normal registration charge, by being given first-shot at the cheapest discount rate. (There are legal limitations that prevent a more direct compensation being offered.) The first 50 registrations are being offered at a rate that is bearly above the marginal cost per attendee, for the benefit of those who have to pay their own way. There has been some time pressure because we've needed to give final commitments to our speakers from outside Auckland, and the registrations will shortly be advertised outside NZNOG, so I suggest that you get in quickly -- or tell your employer the full-price rate.
Paul Vixie ... Brendan Murray ... I'd be kinda interested in knowing what I was going to be paying $100+ to hear him talk about... :-)
Some speakers have been confirmed only very recently and have yet to furnish full details of their sessions. I will give them a hurry-along and let you know when they do.
LUG #1
Sorry about those; I have several people who've offered sessions, and enough back-up speakers to make sure that they happen, but not enough detail to promise anything too specific right now. I'll go knock some heads together and get back to you.
I'm sure that for many of you this is going to be a nice chance to catch up with your mates at the expense of your employer,
Ouch! I'm the convenor, and I'm paying my own way! If I'm *lucky* my employer will give me paid leave. OK, so perhaps my fill-in intro for Brendan Murray was too chatty and informal, but it was just that -- a fill-in.
I need a little bit more than what's there before deciding to fork out the approx. $600 and 2 days annual leave it's going to cost me to attend
See above, I'm chasing up speakers for more details, and I'll let you know when they're available. I realise it sounds like a lot of money to an individual, however if you were to go to a training company, they would charge you at least that for one day, let alone three or four. I'd really like to see this happen again next year -- but bags someone else do the organising! And just a word of warning: remember that since half of the attendees are also speakers, the remainder have to pay double to cover whatever you figure the costs are. -Martin - To unsubscribe from nznog, send email to majordomo(a)list.waikato.ac.nz where the body of your message reads: unsubscribe nznog
