I've registered a new domain name, ānaru.net.nz, to test how one of these names will fare in our ASCII oriented world. I've signed the zone and registered it via dlv.isc.org I've tried to subscribe to this list using the email address asjl(a)ānaru.net.nz and I get told: NZNOG Subscription results Your subscription is not allowed because the email address you gave is insecure. I'm quite sure this is only the first of many problems I will encounter.

May be you need to try to use the punycode version of the domain name (xn--naru-psa.net.nz) to make it work. Mail systems are particularly delicate about IDNs. cheers,

In the future that we are apparently not living in, no user should ever need to see the punycode encoding of their domain name. I agree with Andy's characterisation of this as a problem. Joe
