Hi all, What was that last week about someone advertising some new content on wix? Our traffic to wix has more than doubled.. What was the content? Cheers Regards, Craig - ConceptNET
Maybe Trademe's got a special on. Craig Spiers wrote:

www.stuff.co.nz just got peering at WIX....

A certain provider of a large amount of content (which I can't name because I haven't got permission to announce this properly) is now peering on WIX. It's ~10-15M at peak.
Make sure your prefixes are being sent to the WIX route servers, and you're accepting at least 202.135.111.128/27 from them, and you'll get a nice short path to it instead of via Auckland.

Yeah, saw that.. pretty serious amount of traffic flowing to wix now, we now (strangely enough) dump more traffic onto wix, than we do onto ape.. by almost double..! -----Original Message----- From: James Ashford [mailto:pi(a)fone.co.nz] Sent: Saturday, 12 February 2005 12:01 p.m. To: nznog(a)list.waikato.ac.nz Subject: RE: [nznog] WIX Traffic www.stuff.co.nz just got peering at WIX....

Thats a little strange considering the population, largest ISPs and a fairly number of the large websites are based in Auckland. I doun't suppose anyone is doing traffic accounting by AS and would like to summarized where everything is coming/going? -- Simon J. That's what I thought.. Am peering with almost everyone on ape - except the obvious xtra, netgate and clear.. Give preference to the ape path in most cases.. (except with trademe etc). Yeah, some by AS accounting would be nice.. -----Original Message----- From: Simon Lyall [mailto:simon(a)darkmere.gen.nz] Sent: Saturday, 12 February 2005 1:16 p.m. To: nznog Subject: RE: [nznog] WIX Traffic On Sat, 12 Feb 2005, Craig Spiers wrote:

Just a gentle troll, I'm going to contest a couple of the assertions below.
Thats a little strange considering the population,
my reading of the population stats available at http://www.stats.govt.nz/tables/subnat-pop-estimates-tables.htm leads me to assert that about 2.1 million people in NZ live closer to Auckland than they do to Wgtn, and that about 1.9 million live closer to Wellington than to Auckland. The assertion that APE should naturally be significantly bigger than WIX because of population doesn't seem to be supported by the actual population figures.
largest ISPs and a fairly number of the large websites are based in Auckland.
There may well be large websites in Auckland, but if there are, they're not making much of an impact on APE. Right at this moment, Trademe is pumping more data into WIX than *any* ISP is into APE *or* WIX, and Stuff is not a hell of a lot further behind. Of course, I don't have full visibility - there are many direct-circuit bilateral arrangements between ISP's in Auckland that I can't see into. So, I'd posit that there is still significantly more Internet data flying around the Auckland CBD than around Wellington. I'm not necessarily convinced that will remain the case forever, though - traffic will cluster around the content providers.
I doun't suppose anyone is doing traffic accounting by AS and would like to summarized where everything is coming/going?
I have no accounting by ASN, but after a cursory look at the graphs, I'd suggest that it's skewed around Trademe, Stuff, and a bunch of smaller sites like Ritchies mad streaming radio stations. Cheers Si

Hi, Yes, we have been progressively migrating the Stuff servers onto AT&T address space and WIX peering over the last few weeks. Last Sunday (6th) this was finished, and I think the traffic peaked at 26Mb/s on Monday morning. Measurements sourced from AT&T vs those taken at our border suggest that slightly less than 2/3 of the total traffic is going across WIX. Previously, Stuff was on a 10Mb link via TelstraClear which was significantly limiting the site performance. Since the change the interactive performance of the website seems to us to have improved substantially. Now that we have the headroom we will be looking to improve performance further over coming months.
