For example the U of Waikato contingent was strong (10 - 15). [...] After all without them we'd have been without that wonderful wireless network. [1]
I'd actually assumed that the wireless was provided by Citylink, what with the wireless units reporting CafeNet, etc. In any event, it was good to see a bunch of people from University of Waikato turn up, and scheduling the conference for a university term break obviously helped.
What I am trying to say is there were frills From owner-nznog(a)list.waikato.ac.nz Sun Jan 12 20:12:25 2003 Return-Path:

Good list - I just have one more thing to add.
=20
When it comes to getting money out of companies. The Techies
don't have any.
=20
Most of the Sponsorship money you need comes from the Marketing
department. And they don't care how much beer will be at the
conference.
=20
I had some real issues with getting cash out of a certain company
without answering the following questions.
=20
Can we have printed brochers to hand out to our customers.
(I told them there was a webpage)
Yes. Glossy colour flyers being produced as we speak, as this makes the = selling exercise so much easier. I'll put the colour PDF's up on the Web = site, to let people colour print their own version for local conversations.
Can you send us the webpage URL so that we can link to it from our
Events calender (Told them it was coming)
Yes.
Who else is sponsoring at this conference.=20
This is my exercise over the next 4 weeks, drum up the sponsorship. My hope= = is sponsorship will be similar to last year, with some additional sponsors.
Can we get the list of attendees and contact details=20
(Yeah right, but they will ask)
You can certainly get a copy of last years attendees. We are obviously = hoping for more.
Can we put up advertising around the venue, how much and for how long.
etc etc etc etc etc
Yes, length of conference, whatever works for you. The point of the venue i= s= it is somewhat larger than last year. So corporate type things can happen = if the sponsors desire.
=20
I'd suggest that people go and look at the Sponsorship page
for Apricot and see what they are offering to companies who
provide sponsorship. This is the sort of stuff that the
Marketing departments want to see. Otherwise you have a=20
shit show of getting cash out of large companies.
=20
Oh and most of the time they control the big speakers too =3D)
Particularly if they help with the airfare....
