illegal characters in DNS names ?
Has anyone else received a spam recently offering new domain names with "illegal" characters in the domain name ? apparently under the .bz TLD, try a host lookup on http://www.b&w.bz -- Steve Systems Admin, ICONZ - To unsubscribe from nznog, send email to majordomo(a)list.waikato.ac.nz where the body of your message reads: unsubscribe nznog
Yes. I've seen quite a number of the spams and yes they are "breaking the
RFC's". Should "the powers of be" allow the .bz registery to do this, I
really dunno. (Unless there is an RFC which allows this now)
www.b&w.bz canonical name = www.bq--abrcm5y.bz.
Name: www.bq--abrcm5y.bz
Address: 12.148.59.175
donald's.bz canonical name = bq--absg63tbnrsco4y.bz.
Name: bq--absg63tbnrsco4y.bz
Address: 12.148.59.175
Thanks
Craig

.bz has been licensed to Verisign by the country of Belize - an attempt by Verisign to dilute the value of .biz (a competitor to.com). Verisign were trying to auction off "premium" .bz names via eBay at US$20,000 a pop. That was a miserable failure. Failure and Verisign are regular bedfellows. And realize that the "powers that be" rely heavily on Verisign for their operating budget. -- Andrew P. Gardner barcelona.com stolen, stmoritz.com stays. What's uniform about the UDRP? We could ask ICANN to send WIPO a clue, but do they have any to spare? Who are the "powers that be" here? The people who write browsers and resolver libraries that interpret these novel labels in the way intended by the bz registry, presumably. You think people like Microsoft, the ISC and the Mozilla people rely heavily on Verisign for their operating budget? Sounds like a conspiracy theory. Oh no... Big-5/hi-ASCII URLs too? Been getting a lot a lot of HELO/EHLOs like that recently. -- Juha Saarinen - To unsubscribe from nznog, send email to majordomo(a)list.waikato.ac.nz where the body of your message reads: unsubscribe nznog
