I solved this issue (this is presumably the same one I had, the connection was accepted and then immediately dropped by ihug with no SMTP banner) by checking that forwards and reverse DNS matched for the machine I was connecting from. (Some form of 4xx/5xx would have been nice...) I've spoken to a couple of other people who have been seeing this over the last 4-5 days, so presumably it's a recent change. Michael
