Even when its particularly relevant to network operations? Like it or not, this is something that does affect our operations. I for one would be interested in hearing more about the degree of impact this will have, particularly when dealing with the "script kiddies", given that the law considers them minors. I'm guessing that it will end being nothing more than a slap on the hand for those offenders, given their age. It looked to me that there were more than a few grey areas - perhaps someone more involved in the submissions would care to comment. I don't know that spamming could be lumped in there, but it is nice to see that they got some of it right with respect to DoS attacks and hack attempts. Also of interest is the updated Telecommunications Act that requires us to provide "interception points". The Govt stated that they would cover the cost of installing those points - anyone got a new switch out of them yet? :-) Cheers, Gordon Smith CCNA Network Operations Manager MoreNet Ltd PGP Fingerprint: 4B12 FBE4 784A 3294 6637 4587 AB6F C893 AB2C 952C

make such actions "breach of contract" <shrug> and then suspend.. surrrrely.. /sw
Already is. I was referring to the "legal" aspects of it.... Its my belief that our AUPs will still end up being the only thing enforcable in these situations. Would have been nicer if LARTs involving baseball bats were included somewhere :-) Gordon Smith CCNA Network Operations Manager MoreNet Ltd PGP Fingerprint: 4B12 FBE4 784A 3294 6637 4587 AB6F C893 AB2C 952C

I'm curious why there wasn't much discussion about this before, actually. Wrote about it in 2000, with some good analysis from Mr Abley pointing out the less than desirable effects on ISP operations that the then proposed legislation could cause. http://www.pcworld.co.nz/pcworld/pcw.nsf/UNID/866A0C23A4355BA2CC256879000FCA03?OpenDocument&Highlight=2,Juha,Saarinen Hmmm...
