In defence of the Xtra PR spokeswoman Anna, I have to say she is entirely new to the world of ICT and when I asked her about IP numbers/addresses she'd never heard the term before... I asked her about IPv6 more as a separate point ("... and what about plans to roll out IPv6?") rather than as a solution to the allocation issue... I guess it's not really on topic to have it in the story alongside the rest but she had so little to say on the matter (oddly) that there really wasn't enough for a separate story.
But not just ANY Cisco router. This is one of the first five Cisco routers in New Zealand (3 AGS, 2 MGS) imported on VUW's behalf by ECL (a division of the TV repair people Tisco, and which became Case, Dowty, etc., and is called Logical this week.). It was upgraded a number of times and transferred to ownership of NetLink, which was bought by Telstra (NZ), which merged with Saturn, which bought CLEAR and is now called TelstraClear. It's sitting under a desk in our model suite, and is, as they say, surplus to requirements. Being as it's historical 'n all, is there any interest in it? -- Michael Newbery IP Architect TelstraClear Limited
