This is normal behaviour. When the .nz servers are under load, requests not coming from registrars are dropped. Either run the whois from a registrar website (or dnc.org.nz) or wait an hour or 2 and try again, and it should work fine. :) Jeremy

normal??? It's down more than it's up, I am trying to register a domain that has just been released and dnc shows it's available but several registries show it as still pending release so it can't be be registered. surely this is a bad thing. tom

PS seems domainz is the only registrar of several I have tried that will allow registration of this domain, whats going on there??? tom

Hi Tom, When a domain name is cancelled (except within the first five days of registration), the domain name is set to "Pending Release" for a period of time. During this time, no one other than the (former) owner of the domain name can register the domain name. The whole policy can be found at http://dnc.org.nz/content/registering_managing_cancelling.pdf The current Pending Release period is 90 days from cancellation or non-renewal. A whois lookup will show when the domain name was cancelled. HTH. -- simon On 09/10/05, Tom <admin(a)homemachine.net> wrote:
