I know may of you will be at NZNOG in March but if you need more conference time then the annual Asia Pacific Regional Internet Conference on Operational Technologies (APRICOT) event is happening in Perth, Western Australia from 22nd February to 3rd March 2006. Registrations for the event are open and early bird is closing on the 14th Jan (tomorrow!). This is the first time that APRICOT will be held in Australia and I've been told they'd really love to see lots of us coming over for it! APRICOT consists of workshops, tutorials, conference, as well as the 6 monthly APNIC meeting. I thought I'd also mention that APNIC has invitation letters for those who are interested in attending the meeting. (It's been found to be helpful in some cases in supporting one's case to attend the meeting.) If you want an invitation letter, just drop me an email. We're happy to send it out by post or as pdf - as you prefer.) There are some really good technical workshops and tutorials at this meeting that you really should take the opportunity to attend. (ISP routing, BGP multihoming, IPv6 Deployment, DNS & DNSSec & Network security.) Also, I think I can promise good Beer in Perth... Nurani APNIC Begin forwarded message:

Pardon the intrusion on this list, but: InternetNZ is in the process of evolving a position on the Telecommunications framework and regulatory environment in New Zealand, with a view to making submissions to the Minister of Technology prior to 31 January. We are seeking input from members and interested stakeholders to assist us in reaching a consensus position on which we can proceed. Meetings are scheduled as follows: Wellington Wednesday 25 January at 6.00pm InternetNZ, 9th Floor, Exchange Place 5 - 7 Willeston Street Auckland Thursday 26 January at 6.00pm Marlborough Room 2 Sky City Convention Centre Christchurch Venue and date TBC, if sufficient interest exists to hold a meeting. InternetNZ would welcome participation from NZNOGgers who may have empathy with InternetNZ's broad philosophy of an open and uncaptureable Internet for NZ. To assist with room requirements, RSVP by email to office at internetnz.net.nz indicating the meeting you wish to attend i.e. Auckland / Wellington / Christchurch, before 9am Monday 23 January. Issues to be discussed will include: - Should reconsideration be given by Government to Local Loop Unbundling (LLU)? - Should the Government legislate to split Telecom into wholesale and retail operations? - Should the Government legislate for local neutral IP peering? - Should InternetNZ provide a round of beers for meeting participants? etc. A briefing paper will be provided to registered participants by Tuesday 24 January. Regards Keith Davidson Executive Director - InternetNZ

You have my permission to spend registry profits to make it happen. I look forward to the beers. Peter Mott MOTT & ASSOCIATES -/-
