Im being spammed from a netblock inside qwest... ive made three individual attempts to mail their abuse people and get nothing but their automated bounce message... Has anyone successfully dealt with spam or abuse inside qwest.net ? At this point im considering blocking the MTA concerned from connecting to my server, but then theyll just go to my backup MX (who doesnt want to impose the same restrictions that I am willing to.. *frustrated*. Found it. http://www.spews.org/html/S359.html Looks like im not the first one to have issues with this one. I Think its time to look into ways to block particular MTAs. Anyone know of an easy way to do this inside QMail? I was going to just use IPChains.... But if I could generate some sort of bounce that could be useful. :) At 20:17 25/05/2002 +1200, you wrote:

Blocks the from domain, not the MTA... Im already using badmailfrom to nail one particular spamming agent (discussed here more than once) but its a shame Qmail cant block particular MTA IPs automagically... rblsmtpd was suggested and i'll have to start looking at that, I guess. I never liked RBL lists... At 22:53 25/05/02 +1200, Chris Hellberg wrote:

Not knowing anything about RBL, maybe it is possible to make your own list? Michael - To unsubscribe from nznog, send email to majordomo(a)list.waikato.ac.nz where the body of your message reads: unsubscribe nznog
From my brief reading of some Google results, it is possible to create your own local list.. That may be the way to pursue it. Now I need some free time. :) At 09:37 26/05/02 +1200, Michael Jager wrote:

If you are just wanting to "blacklist" some people locally, and you are using a recent version of sendmail, then I suggest you look at using the "access" file. This does exactly what you are asking. Example entries are: Spam.com REJECT - Outright reject mail from this domain Spam.com DISCARD - Accept mail from this domain, but silently discard it Spam.com 550 You are the weakest link. Good bye. - Outright reject mail from this domain, but give a personalised reason why. -----Original Message----- From: owner-nznog(a)list.waikato.ac.nz [mailto:owner-nznog(a)list.waikato.ac.nz] On Behalf Of Mark Foster Sent: Sunday, 26 May 2002 10:00 a.m. To: Michael Jager; nznog Subject: Re: Spam from inside qwest.net From my brief reading of some Google results, it is possible to create your own local list.. Thats the feature I want - but in Qmail, not Sendmail. Ive not yet heard of anyone doing this with qmail directly though. At 10:08 26/05/02 +1200, Philip D'Ath wrote:

Here is a typical line in tcp.smtp:
67.217.210.:allow,RBLSMTPD="mondaytime.com - Spam delivery refused. Permanent
block"
This refuses the connection to this /24 with a 443 error and replies with this
message.
If I wanted to return a 553, I'd precede the text with a "-"
Takes a bit of getting used to at first, nut once you're comfortable with
qmail, it's pretty good. :-)

Well, they do have their uses for at least small sites like my personal one. I drop as much mail[1] as I can from .kr and .cn, like this, with Exim 4: dnslists = relays.visi.com :\ kr.rbl.cluecentral.net:\ cn.rbl.cluecentral.net -- Juha Saarinen [1] That should read "spam from open relays" of course. - To unsubscribe from nznog, send email to majordomo(a)list.waikato.ac.nz where the body of your message reads: unsubscribe nznog
