RE: [nznog] nznog research group for NGI?
Sheesh... Heaven forbid that someone should set up a network that might compete with Telco's.... Don't you think that if someone can do it better/cheaper, then that's a Good Thing(tm) for competition in NZ. I know the network is supposed to be for "research", but then you could argue that the original NZ backbone (linking the Universities, etc) was too and look where it is now... Then again, maybe you don't want to look... :) Just my 2c. Later'ish Craig

Looks like the NGI proposal will shut out private or commercial users unless they comply with the Network use policy.
All points to setting up a nznog related research group in order to be able to play in it. Unfortunately nothing states the fee required to be a Partner.
Anyway they are looking for feedback by 1 Oct

A "pattern of protection" is indeed emerging in NZ internetworking policy. The new policy would seem to preclude this: http://computerworld.co.nz/news.nsf/UNID/966511BA2E481FA9CC256F0B00202FB4 from happening then. -- Juha

Another in a series of spineless capitulations, don't forget: 6. Cabinet has approved the following objectives to guide allocation of the Crown-managed 3.5GHz spectrum: . . . 3. Terms of access must not unreasonably undercut networks of companies purchasing spectrum at auction, but must be sufficiently workable to promote take-up and competition; and , , http://www.med.govt.nz/rsm/spp/fixed-wireless-access/allocation-plan/allocat...
