No one here has commented, (Unless my mail filter rules are a little broken at the moment) What are peoples thoughts?

IDN at TLD level is clearly reasonable in terms of making the Internet inclusive. I think there will be some interesting technical challenges, though. Allowing a gold rush for "branded" TLDs is just pandering to greed, will cause enormous user confusion, and appears to contain no real protection against a scaling collapse that I can see. FYI there are moves afoot in the IETF to reserve a few TLDs for special purposes (http://tools.ietf.org/id/draft-ellermann-idnabis-test-tlds) Brian
Somewhat surprised. Are not the root servers already very busy? I can appreciate the IDN-TLD stuff, although I'm a bit disappointed in the lack of policy about things like the lack of automatic aliasing between the TLD and IDN-TLD; it will probably just make it a whole lot more expensive to purchase a domain. Any plans for Maori IDNs under .nz? Any registry policies? On 27/06/2008, at 4:32 PM, Chris Hodgetts wrote:

Not yet, but the DNC is looking for your feedback on a possible policy right now: http://dnc.org.nz/story/30305-29-1.html Submissions close on July 17th. Sam.

Given that most people don't like to pay more than $20 per year for a domain name I wonder how the economy of running a new TLD would stack up - didn't they mention $100,000 per new TLD (plus infrastructure)? -----Original Message----- From: Chris Hodgetts [mailto:chris(a)archnetnz.com] Sent: Friday, 27 June 2008 4:32 p.m. To: nznog(a)list.waikato.ac.nz Subject: [nznog] ICANN New TLD's No one here has commented, (Unless my mail filter rules are a little broken at the moment) What are peoples thoughts? _______________________________________________ NZNOG mailing list NZNOG(a)list.waikato.ac.nz http://list.waikato.ac.nz/mailman/listinfo/nznog ##################################################################################### This e-mail message has been scanned for Viruses and Content and cleared by MailMarshal #####################################################################################
