Just an FYI, For those that may be wondering why they're getting increased load on links in and out of APE, Xtra withdrew all routes and dropped their BGP session to WIX at about 11am this morning. This left a few parties delivering content to Xtra customers high and dry, and does little for the stability of the Interweb in NZ, which is a shame. Hopefully, the folks at TCNZ will see the light shortly, and turn it back on. Cheers Si
Hi all,
My Apologies to Simon in particular for not notifying the the Citylink NOC
regarding our need to drop the Xtra peering to the WIX route server.
We made this change because our Wellington router was running at 100%CPU and
we had an urgent need to reduce load.
Regards
Don Kendrick

No worries.

So can we expect the router to be replaced with something beefier? If so, when? Cheers Si

We've identified the folks who'd made recent changes that (unintentionally) caused extra traffic to be routed through the Telecom peering sessions, which in turn pounded the Telecom router. Filters have been applied, I'm hoping that Telecom will reestablish the sessions fairly shortly (where shortly may be next week, since everybody at Telecom seems to be more interested in beer at this time of day :-). Cheers Si
