Hi, I have just knocked up a quick-and-dirty whois interface to the domainz nz-tld registration database, since + I live in a command-line world + the internet was much better before the web + etc, etc, foam-at-mouth The data is pulled on-demand from the CGI interface at Waikato, and is presented in a ripe-181-alike format. ALERT: April 30 Summit Update

Greetings all - The April 30 Summit on Internet Governance Changes is progressing well, with only one speaker left to confirm. On-line registration is working well on the link for the Summit page, and the latest draft Agenda is available. Background material is being updated as time permits. The cost to ISOCNZ members is only $20 (GST Inc) and $75 to non- members and this basically covers your lunch and refreshments during the day. There was a discussion on the list about Joe Abley's beer capacity, and a potential NOG meeting (and lunch) at Rydges Rotorua on Friday 16th. We have no response from the list, so Uniforum extends an invitation to any Network operators to just turn up and we will organise something at the time. Since some of you will not want to drive to Rotorua for the weekend without a show of hands, a show of hands would be useful. Lunch is normally 12ish to 1.45ish. Donald Neil and Myself are presenting early afternoon. This being a civilised country, the bar is pretty much open all the time. NOG meeting report

Someone asked for an update on the NOG meeting held at Rydges Hotel, Rotorua, at 5.30pm 16/4/99 in the Atrium Bar. About 8 from Telecom and one from Cisco showed up. The Cisco representative's expense account took a mighty beating, while we all drank to Joe Abley's health. Mike Spain and Gibbo gave an eloquent glimpse of their understanding of SPAM, and 55 ways to generate a Denial of Service attack on that lovely little blonde from marketing. Gibbo then ordered shakers, which appear to be truly evil things, and the Cisco rep foolishly agreed to send all NOG attendees a Cisco Tshirt Each. Josh Bailey's named was mentioned several times, most inconjuntion with how an organisation becomes de-joshed, and how did it get Josh'ed in the first place. At that point the ceiling flew away..... That is about all I remember. Others will no doubt add extensive technical information to this short overview... Sky Tower/Sky City colo update

Hi all, I have had verbal confirmation from John Russell of IHUG and Andy Miller of Xtra that IHUG and Xtra are keen to participate in an exchange at the Sky Tower. Between us, CLEAR, IHUG and Xtra should bring a significant amount of Auckland traffic to the exchange, and make it well worth joining. CLEAR hopes to have packet access to the 48th floor in the tower within the next four weeks, ready to peer with anybody else who cares to join us. The reason for choosing the 48th floor is that it turns out another project within CLEAR had already funded a cabinet there, so it's a handy place for us :) For those who took the tour the other day, the 48th floor is one of the glass-walled floors, ideal for radio shots back to home base without the planning approval that's required for external antennas. If the 48th floor turns out to be wildly inconvenient for anybody else we can always trunk our connection elsewhere. To talk about pricing either dedicated cabinets or space in community cabinets on the 48th floor, Warren Harding's your man: 025 338-392, 09-306-1599x706, warren(a)jda.co.nz. On a related note, I will be talking to Steve Donnohy of Sky City about the ground-level (well, basement) colo facilities in the building, in case it makes sense to do something down there. If anybody else has a desparate itch to attend the discussions, drop me a note (I'm meeting Steve at 9am, Friday 9 April). I will summarise whatever I find out to the list in any case. I am also on the lookout for someone to donate a switch to the exchange (if anybody has any pointers, please let me know). In the mean time, and at least to get things started, CLEAR will have 10baseT switch ports available on the 48th floor. Longer term I suspect someone will want to sell them rather than give them away, but I'm certainly happy to look elsewhere while people string cat5 into the cabinet to get things running :) Most importantly of all, we can't possibly start peering at the Sky Tower unless we have a cool name for the exchange. Sky-IX? MAE-Auckland? Sky-NAP? Mmm.
