I read a contract for a development in Auckland recently. There was a clause regarding services that stated that the purchaser must purchase electricity/gas/water from the company that the developers specify. There was also a clause that made it compulsory for future buyers to agree to this too. It may or may not have extended this to other services - I'm not sure - this development also had cat-5 cabled throughout and mentioned broadband internet access as an available service. This clause, among others, put me off investing in the development. I'm pretty sure that to answer your question you would need to check the contracts signed by the owners and check the body corporate rules - I doubt you will get a single situation that covers all developments. Yes this is permissable. Obviously the building owner / manager would need to approve this. But if the building owner is doing an 'under-the-table' deal with Telecom and stops other providers providing their alternative DSL to building occupants, this can be considered anti-competitive behaviour and Telecom could be taken to the commerce commission for this. If this unit is not using Telecom lines, does it need to be Telepermit approved? No, as it is not using telecom lines! They would need to have their own lines into the building, however. If competitive DSL is run over spare pairs (not in use by TelecomNZ), will there be any implications for residents who subscribe to JetStream? Apart from interference, I would not believe so. Any reason why you aren't thinking Ethernet? - Provided the distances are shot. Actually other ISPs look like they were effected, Ihug's MOTD suggests this, SNAP had issues too. Telecom outage?

[ISC-Ops #6939] routine maintenance for F-Root in Auckland

I am doing some router upgrades in Auckland which will likely cause some BGP sessions to reset. There is no expected impact on local F-root service. If anybody doesn't currently peer directly with the F-root node across the APE, please feel free to send your details to peering(a)isc.org and we'll get you set up.
