NZNOG - Payments - Late Fees

Late fees will be charged for NZNOG registrants who have not paid, or arranged payments by Monday. This is an extension by one working day on the announced time. This means that if you have registered and chose the "Defer payment option" you must have arranged your method of payment by Monday afternoon and received confirmation from us. Cheque payments must reach us before the conference. Late fees will be 25% of the conference registration, i.e. the new fees will be: Conference $175 Student Rate $112.50 Tutorial Day $37.50 There are no late fees on accomodation or dinner tickets. NZNOG - Programme

HEADS UP - Webcast activity - Tsunami Memorial Service

On Sunday 16 January RadioNZ will be broadcasting an inter-faith memorial service live from Auckland. They will also be streaming it on the Internet via R2.co.nz. The stream will be on internationally routed numbers and not restricted. ISPs may notice some traffic changes and Help Desks may receive more calls relating to web based media. The event will be time limited to 1:15pm to 2:45pm and include one minutes silence at 1:59pm (the webcast will continue altho it will be silent) The RadioNZ web page with details of the event is at http://www.radionz.co.nz/tsunami/ Thanks for your co-operation Rich

Those stinky cisco boxes with their special power cables. From memory I might have stolen it from a jug or something we had lying around. More on topic though. I can remember a BOF session at Uniforum 1998 in which all the ISP's sat down and discussed peering. I seem to remember that it was some time after that that things started. That would put the timeframe for the idea at 21-23May 1998. The question of who was first is a hard one. WIX (the route servers) didn't start until later. But National Library peering with Clear would have been one of the first, and that was around July 1998 IIRC. The date on the AS number I applied for supports this kind of time changed: hostmaster(a)apnic.net 19980724 I think Actrix was doing something about that time too. And maybe one of the isp's starting with "I". Maybe it will become clearer over beer. See you all next month. Dean

Looks like I'll be doing a lightning (3-10 minute) talk at nznog this year since there are a couple of 5 minutes gaps. While I've got a fallback topic I'm wondering if anyone has anything they would be particularly like me to talk about. Maybe random email or Usenet stuff, system admin and design, cornflakes, curry, political or historical stuff. Pop me an email and I'll see how they look. Does anybody happen to remember when peering between ISPs in Wellington using network 10 addresses started happening? I remember Craig Anderson circulating a draft document reserving chunks of 10/8 for people, and some talk about static ARP, but I don't remember when it was. The current address block used on the WIX (202.7.0.0/23) was pulled out of Rex Croft's magic bag of spare addresses in July 1998, according to the list archives, so it was before then. If I was to document a start date for the WIX (e.g. "first BGP session between ISPs was set up", or maybe "first packet was exchanged between citylink/CNHL customers", or something) what would it be?
