IP assignment to end users

Hi all, If you have customers connected to you and you are doing IP address assignment with IPCP (ie. over PPP), or with DHCP, can you please let me know how your network does it? I'm especially interested in whether you have local address pools on access routers, or if you have centrally managed address pools and then inject IPv4 /32 routes in to your IGP, or a combination of the two (ie. dynamic customers on local pools, static customers on RADIUSed addresses). Also please let me know if you have a single LNS/NAS, or multiple, if they exist in multiple cities, etc. We had some interesting discussion the other day in the Auckland IPv6 workshop, and I wanted to get some background info to feed recommendations I'm putting in to a public 'How to do IPv6 to ADSL/ etc. subscribers' document I'm thinking of doing, with a focus on the NZ last mile environment. World Exchange unreachable

Looks like xnet.co.nz is unreachable via IP (which includes their phones). Is there anybody nearby who can knock on the door and offer beer to turn their stuff back on? I am thinking NZNOG needs to incorporate, mount a challenge for .nz and use the income to fund an ISP that we call all own. IPv6 route servers at WIX

I'm in the process of automating the configuration of the IPv6 route servers at the WIX. Currently those who peer are only peering with one server, rs1-v6.wix.net.nz. I've added a second server, rs2-v6.wix.net.nz, and those who currently peer with the existing server have been added to the config of that. If you are an existing peer can you connect to the other server so that we can test our autobuilt config for it please. You can see a looking glass for that server at: http://nzix.net/cgi-bin/lg.cgi?protocol=IPv6&router=rs2-v6.wix.net.nz Once we've got this process refined we'll be happy to take more peers. (:-) We'll also roll out similar changes to the APE.

6to4 on the APE

As those of you who read the NZRR database notifications (or am I the only one?) will have noticed, we've updated filters with the intent to advertise the 6to4 prefix (192.88.99.0/24) on the APE shortly. This will put the closest 6to4 server for NZers on peering ISPs in Auckland, as opposed to Chicago (the current closest in all the tests I did, anyway). I'm sure many people will be interested in the level of traffic we receive, and the nature of that traffic, so I will be doing some analysis and will post details after it's been live a while. At this stage it looks like we will be announcing the prefix some time between now and Wednesday.
