OARC 40 - Call for Contribution

OARC 40 will be a two-day hybrid meeting held on 16 & 17 February in Atlanta (GA), USA at 10:00 AM (Local time - EST (UTC-05:00)). The onsite part of the meeting will be colocated with NANOG 87. The Programme Committee is seeking contributions from the community. All DNS-related subjects and suggestions for discussion topics are welcome. For inspiration, we provide a non-exhaustive list of ideas: - Operations: Any operational gotchas, lessons learned from an outage, details/reasons for a recent outage (how to improve TTR, tooling). - Deployment: DNS config management and release process. - Monitoring: Log ingestion pipeline, analytics infrastructure, anomaly detection. - Scaling: DNS performance management and metrics. NZNOG 2023 Announcement

** *Hi all, * * The NZNOG Trust wishes to announce the NZNOG 2023 conference. We will host this on March 23rd and 24th, 2023, in Rotorua at the Rydges Hotel. As usual, the conference will be on Thursday and Friday, with tutorials available on Wednesday 22nd and a workshop from Monday to Wednesday. A dinner will be held on the Thursday night of the conference. More details on the conference will be posted to our website when available. Expect a call for papers and an announcement when registrations open. A discount code will be available for the hotel. From our negotiations with hotels it has become clear that due to the return of tourism, accommodation could be in short supply so we recommend booking early. We do have arrangements in place to allow postponement of the conference if the pandemic resurges but at this stage we do not anticipate that it will be necessary. Interest in hearing about IETF meetings?

Seeing the messages to this list about an OARC meeting made me wonder if people on this list would be interested in an occasional (three times a year) post about upcoming IETF meetings? (my $dayjob is IETF Executive Director) For those that don't know, the IETF [1] is the main standards body for the Internet and those standards are published as Internet RFCs [2]. The standards are developed by Working Groups that are open to any individual to participate in, free of charge and without any form of membership, and by using email as the primary means of discussion [3]. There is significant participation from the operator community as well as equipment manufacturers, academics, browser developers and interested individuals. Mikrotik CPE with Spark Fibre issue

Hi, I work for MSP and having issues with customers Mikrotik routers that connect specifically with Spark Fibre. The issue is the routers when initially configured work well and run continuously for many day/weeks/months But eventually something kicks the connection then the PPPoE on the Mikrotik will fail to re-establish its WAN fibre connection. The solution has been to get customer to get their Spark provided router connected which works, then they swap the Mikrotik back in again and it works again. I have done plenty of googling but can't find anything helpful We generally resell voyager fibre to most of our customers with the Mikrotik router and they work flawlessly, but some customers insist on staying with spark and we prefer to only deploy Mikrotiks These logs rotate over and over while its down... Advice regarding selling a /24

Hi All, I've been directed to this mailing list by a work colleague as a place to ask advice regarding selling a /24. I was recently approached by a relative regarding an IPv4 /24 block, as he received an email from APNIC stating that a membership account would need to be opened, and the block validly claimed by 1 Jan 2023, or they would be placed into reserved status. They were assigned around 1992 and haven't been used for anything since at least the early 2000s. As they predate APNIC, they're deemed "historical resources". He has no need for a block this size and is hence looking to sell it. I've not dealt with such things before so am looking for some advice as how I would go about doing so. It seems like using an IP broker might be a way forward (though I couldn’t find any based in NZ, I assume any would do, especially with inter-RIR transfers possible). Another way might be to contact ISPs directly? Either way, I’m assuming (and correct me if I’m wrong here) he’d have to open a membership account and properly claim the IPs before any sale would be possible. This looks like it would cost around 1700 NZD so I’m trying to get an idea of the process before committing to that. Regards, Thomas
